Dear Mela,
Your good letter came this morning and I must talk to you very strongly if you begin to talk of getting old. You need a change so pack your trunk and plan to get to Comfort Island as near the 9th of August as possible as we leave then.
Betty does not get home yet and I begin to fear she will not come but will meet me at Comfort. She is waiting for Mancel to get entirely over his throat trouble. He is however getting better and Bess may come any day now.
I cannot believe Alson had anything to do with that letter about the studio and I really believe Medora’s attitude is an inborn fault of getting what she can and never letting go. The Mc M’s have always been pushed for money enough to live on and cannot bear to part with anything if they believe it is worth anything.
I would go ahead and build my garage and when you see Alson again tell him your reasons and all will be well.
I am still riding horseback every day and have taken up golf again now that our course is open so am awfully athletic.
You must plan to be at Comfort next month a lot.
With love,
Mancel
